Taquiera El Charro Tapatio in San Antonio

This restaurant is a total hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant. There's almost no parking, and the place was packed at lunch time. However, the salsa and food was very very good. Additionally, the service was perfect. I highly recommend this place if you're after good Mexican food!

Chicken and shrimp fajita mix, delicious. Dish was very filling, I had to get a to go box. Loved the beans, Omg, those charro beans are everything. Sweet T was just right, not to sweet. Clean resturant and very friendly staff. Service was pretty fast for lunch and they stayed busy. First time going and I will be back. If ur wondering no military discount.

A busy place that moves a lot of food. That means the quality is fresh all the time. . Fresh, healthy, and a peace of mine. I'm glad they finally opened a drive-thru. 🙂👍👍👍

Good food and good Service.

This is THE best little TexMex restaurant I have ever eaten at. I used to frequent this little diamond in the rough regularly when stationed at Fort Sam Houston. I finally got to go back and it is as amazing as I remember it. I was very excited to see that they have Arroz con Pollo y queso. I have only had this at one other place and it was in Ohio. It did NOT disappoint. What a delicious dish.

I had been a regular custom 4+ yrs. I ordered $15 of food at the drive through window. As is customary I was asked to pull past the window to wait for my order. 5 other vehicles proceeded through behind me ordered & received their food & left. After waiting for 25 minutes I left. I returned the following day & was told that I could not receive a refund until the person that took my order was back at work. I will not do business there again.

By far some of the best tacos I’ve had in San Antonio. In my wife’s words, the tortillas melt in your mouth as do the beans and carne asada! The salsa they give is delicious and spicy! The only reason for four stars is the amount of time spent waiting in the drive thru. We spent 40 minutes in the driveway with only one person in front of us. Other than that, they give amazing food and my wife and I keep coming back!

The salsa is pretty epic. It has a kick, that if you call yourself a Texan you will appreciate. The service was friendly, the sweet tea was sweet, and the food was filling.

Best breakfast tacos near Fort Sam Houston. Great lunches. Reasonably priced. Salsa is really good and chips are not out of the bag a regular stop.

Food was great, service was slow, one waitress and one bus boy, on a Thursday night, it wasn't that busy. Poor waitress was working half the tables and drive through. She was forgetting a bunch of stuff, not really blaming her, just poor management. An elderly couple walked in, sat down and was not even addressed with a drink order, silverware or menus, after about 15 minutes, they got up and left. i will say that the waitress was paying more attention to the 3 soldiers that came in after us. she tried taking their drink order first until we told her that we were there first, she then brought us the menus and silverware. All in all, good food, maybe just a under staffed night. We have been there before months ago, with no complaints.

Just happened to pass by and found this place. The food is very good and the service is fantastic. The waitress was very friendly.

Picked up 2 of each of their tacos (pastor, asada, barbacoa). And i believe i definitely have a bias towards the barbacoa. Omg it's so good with fresh homemade flour tortillas!!

3 stars because the environment feels kinda dirty inside. However, the food, service, and speed of service is excellent. I got the El Pastor plate and it was awesome!

I have frequented Charro for over 8 years and I have never been disappointed. Great food, friendly hard working staff, and consistent quality. When I am away for an extensive period of time, Charro is an immediate go to when returning to SA. Give this place a shot; I am confident you will find Charro a future favorite.

just waited 20 minutes for 3 tacos and no one was ahead of me... I'd rather eat "3-day old gas station sushi" than do that again.

Small little Mexican restaurant charming but very busy servicing customers from Ft Sam. Typical fare reasonable prices generally good service.

While the food is good every single time we have visited this place their prices are magically different. Just today they charged us $6 for chips and salsa to go when other times it is $4. Same thing with the tacos, I am tired of getting different prices and won't be visiting them anymore even though their salsa is delicious.

Best breakfast tacos around, lived in Alamo Hieghts for 15 years this was our favorite let's treat ourselves breakfast place. Moved west but whenever I'm near I always stop in, had huevo de papa y queso this morning absolutely delicious, and their green sauce is excellent. Staff are very polite.

Delicious, affordable and fast. The house salsa is the hottest house salsa I've ever had. From cold, fresh iced tea to hot, perfectly cooked and garnished street tacos; everything we've tried has been fantastic.

Tacos needed more spice and they didn't give us fry onions and that's a must with tacos. When is to go plates and wrapping needs to keep food warm longer.

Drive-through experience.Food came out fairly quickly. The amount you get for the price is great. Parking lot is on the small side when waiting for drive-through. It's very close to the base, I highly recommend it to those working at Fort Sam Houston.

Decent spot. Not bad for the price. Got a couple Carne Asada tacos. Didn't blow me out of the water. The service was great though. Fast and efficient. Really well priced as well.

Very good restaurant perfect dip salsa spicy not too but more than most I like very much , meat very tasty perfectly grilled nice atmosphere , pleasant waitresses , also noticeably clean , they take pride in their restraint, I'd take a date here or my family , I'm from calidornia

My husband and I get breakfast tacos here all the time. They're good, but this morning we had something happen for the second time that is really unacceptable. We got in the drive thru line and were almost up to the front to order. Someone came out and took the order for all of the vehicles behind us but skipped us. By the time we ordered, they had us pull up and then the 3 cars behind us got their food and left. It took 30min from the time we pulled up to the time we got our tacos...ridiculous.

The staff is friendly and efficient. Food was 'ok' but not spectacular. The green sauce is really good but the chips are something you could buy at the store. Salsa is very good. It's small but also has a drive through for to go. They serve breakfast and will try that next time

Best chimichanga in town!

This place is absolutely amazing when it comes to authentic Mexican food! Their prices are reasonable and the food is delicious and filling. Do yourself a solid favor and visit this place when you get a chance and want to experience great Mexican. The waitress I had during my last visit was very patient with me in allowing me to practice my Español. I'll be returning soon!

Chart is is the best. Whether going for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The food is fantastic. Staff is on their toes.

I had ordered breakfast through Doordash delivery. The driver never delivered my order, instead the driver stole it. I had called the restaurant 3 times and asked for the manager on duty and a woman said they do not have a manager on duty which is crazy. Doordash helped by redelivering the order and the restaurant argued with the new driver as it was being explained to them that they need to remake the order as they are being compensated twice by Doordash. Apparently their manager was present to argue with the new driver but wasn't able to talk to me, the consumer over the phone. The worst service and I will never ever order nor step into their establishment.

The refried beans and salsa are both made in-house, and they're both amazing. The portions are big, the prices are reasonable, and the staff is friendly.

I waited over 20 minutes for 3 tacos. In the drive through. They were alight not worth the wait.

This place is right by post and does not dissapoint!

The service and complimentary chips are alwaays great. I have tried a lot of things on their menu and so far the best things I have tried are the burritos and tortas and the mini tacos. The chicken caldo was ok. The menudo tasted like it was straight out of a can. The nachos were made with flour tortillas and were disgusting. Basically the food is either a hit or a miss but I will come back for the specific items I do like. And they have a really good horchata and desserts.

Delicious Tex Mex food. Great service. Best enchiladas I've had in years huge iced teas with lots of ice and lemon. Good prices. Would totally recommend. Small place but very busy because the food is so amazing.
